I am currently taking Dr. Formula's DHT blocker which contains Saw Palmetto (a natural DHT blocker) as well as other herbs & vitamins - & I am considering taking finasteride 1mg per day for hair loss. Is it ok to continue taking this natural DHT blocker if I start taking 1mg daily finasteride? The herbs & vitamins in this formula have helped - which is why I wish to continue taking it if allowed.
Answer: Finasteride & Saw Palmetto Generally, Saw Palmetto's side affects are less. But, we don't recommend to use both of them at the same time.

You need a formal evaluation to see what type of hair loss you may have. when you have hairless its best to do a full hormonal workup for internal optimization plus scalp biopsies or scrapings to rule out any stress related, inflammatory, autoimmune or infectious causes of hair loss. In general most people with early hair loss have telogen (stress related) and/or androgenetic (normal aging) and both can be treated with in office treatments like steroid injections, PRP/acell, Exosomes and at home treatments like oral medications, oral vitamins like Viviscal, topical exfoliating sprays like Restorsea, and weekly growth factors like anteagemd. See an expert for an evaluation. If hair loss is significant it may requires hair transplant (follicular unit translation).

Answer: Accurate Diagnosis Is Key For Effective Hair Regrowth For any doctor one of our key tenants is "Do No Harm". Both under and over medicating, or use of unregulated formulas can cause harm. Both medical technology and knowledge have some a long way since the dark ages when medicine was practiced via trial and error, however it seems that many people (some doctors included) still prefer to practice that way. Luckily we now have Precision Medicine (sometimes also called personalized medicine) which bases any treatment on a thorough diagnosis through detailed blood tests. Before taking any kind of treatment for anything - and especially for hair loss which is actually a symptom of deeper underlying conditions and not a disease itself - we must first diagnose and understand the cause and all other contributing factors. Please find a precision medicine doctor who specialises in hair regrowth and who will first perform detailed labs to understand exactly the treatment that you should have to both stop hair loss and to regrow your own natural hair.

Answer: Combining antiandrogens Some patients do combine antiandrogens but one must be aware that the chances of side effects do increase. You’ll want to review the side effects of both finasteride and saw palmetto with your physician. Males taking both have an increased chances of side effects than patients using just one.
