How many versions of Invisalign Clincheck do you typically go through before approving?

It has been almost 2 months since my impressions were taken and we are now on version 5 of the Clincheck. My case has consistently come back 12 trays plus 2 over corrections. Have approved the top but biggest problem is the IPR on bottom...one came back with a cumulative 1mm (top was not right on this one) another 1.3 and another 1.7mm for essentially the same movement. Is it normal to have that many Clinchecks or is my dentist just not providing clear prescription instructions?

I will do my best to answer your question with the information given.It appears that your doctor is going through different treatment options with you.  Sometimes, it is normal to have multiple Clincheks if you are trying to determine the best and most efficient treatment plan for a patient. If you feel uncomfortable thus far with your doctor, I recommend scheduling an appointment with another orthodontist in your area for a second opinion.I hope that this helps and good luck!Best,Dr. Jenn

Sounds like your dentist is reviewing each clincheck with you?  No wonder it is taking so long.  If it keeps getting sent back, something different comes with each new one.  There is no one single right way to do these things.

Dear xandraaa:You have touched on a very important point. Most people think that Invisalign is a magical process determined by a computer.It  is merely another way of performing orthodontic movement. Invisalign is a fantastic computer assisted laboratory that allows the dentist to perform the movement prior to it happening in the mouth. However, there are still certain orthodontic principles that need to be followed, and the dentist prescribing the treatment still has to understand orthodontic movement, and cannot rely on the laboratory to perform the design for him.   I have treated plenty of cases where I have requested multiple computer renditions of the movements, exploring different possibilities. However, it was not up to the patient or the Invisalign laboratory to decide what is the proper course of treatment. The patient is not a doctor and does not have the knowledge necessary to make that decision. This is why they go to the dentist or the orthodontist for this kind of treatment. The  best advice I can give you, is to talk to your dentist and possibly seek the advice of a trained orthodontist.
