Would I still be able to have a hetters peel after a bad Obagi TCA peel 6 years ago? (photo)

Question

The surgeon who did my peel allowed it to go so blue he even called people into the room to see! As a result I developed some hyperpigmentation and some atrophic like streaks that are only visible if I pull my skin in certain directions. I have fine, thin skin. I use Obagi Nuderm and its OK, but for increasing creepiness would like to do a hetters in 18 months. Will I still heal OK after this? Also, on my body only I develop hypertrophic scars. Do I sound a potential candidate?

Hello Bellezza,Thanks for your question.If your biggest worry is crepey skin than a peel won't necessarily give the greatest results.  A Hetter's peel is fairly aggressive and treats the skin from the outside in.  This results in a deep exfoliation but not necessarily skin thickening.  In fact you might get thinner skin in certain conditions.You may want to consider radio-frequency (RF) skin treatments to provide bulk heating of the dermal elements of the skin to get them to thicken and tighten over time.  RF microneedling treatments are safer than peels if there have been problems with pigment and atrophy in the past.A less aggressive option is regular microneedling with PRP (platelet rich plasma) injections.  Both treatment options offer skin improvement with less risk than chemical peeling.I would recommend that you consult with a plastic surgeon with expertise in RF skin treatments for another opinion.Good luck,Dr. Shah
