Question

Planning on paying for 8 sessions of the Gentlemax pro for my full body. While my legs, arms, underarms and bikini have dark coarse hair, I'm worried about the finer hair) but still visibly dark) if this could increase my chance of regrowth? In particular, I'm worried about my chest, face and shoulders - I shave them at the moment but it's not coarse hair - is this risking excessive regrowth because it's not as dark and already fine? It's difficult to tell from your pictures. Laser hair removal does work best with darker hair. Keep in mind, it takes at least three to six sessions to remove hair permanently. See an expert in laser hair removal for a formal evaluation. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question! It is difficult to say by looking at your pictures. It is hard to treat fine hairs and usually it does not yield results. Paradoxical hair growth occurs with some patients. Since I cannot see any hair on either pictures provided, the laser will most probably not work on those areas. You may consider electrolysis. I would say that the promises of these treatments are usually over exaggerated. Fine hair is very difficult to treat and there is a risk of it getting worse and not better. Where the hair is coarse, it can work in 6 sessions but other areas require 10 or more. Touch ups are needed every 6 months as well. Expect 75% hair reduction.
