Post Tattoo Removal Treatment. Is this "normal"?

Question

I have had three tattoo removal sessions in 6 week intervals. The first two were performed by the same person, they went relatively fast giving two passes with roughly 6000 pulses. I did experience a lot of swelling and some blistering that went away in about five days. A different professional performed my third session 2 days ago, doing one pass & 14000 pulses. My arm is severely swollen, covered in blisters, and I am forming blood spots under my tricep.

Based on your description, I recommend following up with your Doctor for aftercare. Some blistering can be normal, but extreme blistering and swelling is not. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Thank you for your question. It is difficult to give you advice without seeing a picture. However, some blistering, crusting and bleeding is usual after laser tattoo removal. As your treatment progresses is sometimes necessary to become more aggressive with the settings. This is to get the best outcome. It could be possible that your treatment was too aggressive. I recommend having your arm evaluated and discussing your concerns with your physician. Your physician will be able to determine the best treatment plan for you. Best of Luck!

No photo makes it hard to determine what is going on with your tattoo. It sounds as if they do a multiple pass technique which I am personally not a fan of. The pulses generated are vey high unless this is an enormous tattoo. I am concerned that you are developing a compartment syndrome in that arm, its severe swelling that compresses nerves and blood vessels. I would go to an emergency room if it becomes worse, goes numb or fingers and nails change color. 
I have my doubts on how normal your arm will look after this process is over.

It is difficult to say if this is an expected result without seeing a picture.  Some blistering, crusting and bleeding is usual after such a treatment. As the treatments progress it it often necessary to  become more aggressive with the  settings in order to get the best outcome.  It may be that your treatment was a little too aggressive. I suggest you contact your provider with your concerns and have them evaluate the situation. They should be able to tell you how best to treat this. Hope this helps.

Minor blistering can occur after tattoo removal. It should be treated as directed by your provider. Multiple/large blistering is not normal, neither is severe swelling. Please see your provider and go over what care needs to be done for this. I can't provide further recommendations without seeing you in person.
