Hello Cami510: Fractional erbium or CO2 are the most effective treatments for discoloration in the vulvar or groin areas. The treatments are spaced one month apart, and you will want to have one to three treatments. The amount of time you will have before complete healing and resolution of all redness will depend upon the cause of your discoloration and the intensity of the treatments, but will vary from several days to two weeks. I sometimes add PRP or transexamic acid immediately after the laser treatment for what is called laser drug-assisted delivery for quicker and more profound results. In my practice, I’d like to use the fraxis duo CO2 device. Some of the side benefits of using this device or a reduction in hairs in the treated areas, and tightening of the labia and other skin areas that are treated. You would want to shave the area prior to arrival, or wax if you do not wish to have a reduction in hairs in the treated areas. You will have from 1 to 3 treatments approximately one month apart. The treatment itself is not painful, as we would numb with a topical anesthetic for one hour prior to treatment, and can use a medication that we place under your tongue for additional comfort control if needed. I do hope this answers your initial questions, but feel free to text or call our main number if you need more information. All the best from New York City, Sheryl Clark MD, FAAD
