I woke up one morning with tooth fragments in my mouth and had big chip in my tooth when I got up and looked in the mirror. Went to the dentist and he bonded it, but that lasted only two days. I've been busy and haven't been able to make it back for a while. What should be the next solution?
Answer: Solutions for Chipped Front Tooth Thank you for your inquiry and time in submitting your photo. We're sorry to hear about your chip and bonding coming off. Unfortunately, bonding is the best option for you if you prefer the least aggressive treatment. You could get bonding done again and have a night guard made to wear at night to prevent possible grinding that you may be doing that could have caused your chip. However, bonding is not a long-term solution and with anterior teeth they are likely to come off sooner than expected since there isn't much for bonding to adhere to. If you would like a more permanent solution then you can look into porcelean veneers. However, keep in mind that doing a single veneer may not be the most aesthetically appealing option for symmetry and you may consider veneering your front two teeth (if not more). Your dentist will help guide you as to what your most optimal option may be. Again, you should look into getting a night guard made for any new restoration that you may choose to protect your teeth from any possible grinding. We hope this helps and best of luck to you!

Answer: Chipped tooth Bondings placed at the incisal edge of the teeth have a very high tendency of chipping off. You can go back to your dentist to have the tooth re-bonded, but if it tends to break off repeatedly, then you may want to consider either having your dentist just smooth off the edge and leave it alone OR consider getting a porcelain veneer that is much more durable and longer lasting than a bonding. Also, I would recommend having your dentist evaluate whether you grind your teeth at night which may have been the cause of the chipped tooth. If so, then a custom nightguard may be recommended.

Answer: Check the bite I would try one more time bonding it and making sure the bite is correct and not causing any interference with the bonding in all chewing positions. If not, another viable option is placing a porcelain veneer on the tooth. That would give you the best esthetic result.

Answer: Chipped tooth Bonding is the least expensive option but also does not last as long and wth half the tooth needing replacement will probably not last more than a few years. A good option is a porcelain veneer which is more expensive but also more "permanent."
