Is HA filler a safe option for post-bleph under-eye hollowing, or should I wait for a fat transfer?
I had a lower transconjunctival blepharoplasty 4 years ago, at 29, to remove prominent genetic under-eye bags. The surgeon removed the fat rather than repositioning it. It looked great at first, but over the past few years I’ve developed hollowing under my eyes (especially along the lateral orbital bone near the cheek-lid junction) and looser eyelid skin that wrinkles more when I smile. Both make me look tired and older again, which I didn’t anticipate. I’m 33 now, and it seems my only real options are fat transfer or HA filler. I’d prefer a fat transfer, but I need to wait a few more years. HA filler is more immediate and affordable, but I’ve heard many people have bad long-term outcomes, like migration or swelling years later. I’ve consulted two oculoplastic surgeons. The first said she could place a small amount of HA filler deep on the bone, but advised against it if I plan to have a fat transfer someday. The second told me last year that I didn’t need a fat transfer yet and that I shouldn’t get HA filler at all, since it never fully goes away. I’d love a few more perspectives: - Is a small amount of HA filler a reliable, stable option for post-bleph volume loss? - Can someone try HA filler and still have a fat transfer a few years later? - Or is it better to skip filler and wait for the fat transfer?
