When i was younger i fell and broke my front tooth and had to get a cap on it. I was just wondering if i could use whitening strips or would that damage the cap

It's difficult to determine from the photos but its either decay that can be filled or it is tartar/calculus that can be removed with a good cleaning.
If you did zoom or laser bleaching usually the front of the teeth will be whitened ! In order for the whole tooth be whitened see a knowledgeable dentist to evaluate, first do a cleaning and get bleaching done with take home trays!
If the color is the only issue, teeth whitening will work. In order to maintain, the lighter color having custom bleach trays is a necessity.
