Can I get teeth bonding done before gum contouring?

I been considering teeth bonding for better looking teeth. However the dentist also suggested gum contouring. My question is ,is it possible to get teeth bonding done before contouring ? Or does it not work this way? I don't want to do teeth contouring first because the only option is scalpel and it takes long time to heal. But I thought if I did composite bonding and then laser gum contouring instead later in time would it be okay. Or would it affect composite bonding badly? Please help me.
