Removal of wire behind teeth... Any suggestions?

I got braces five years ago to close the gap in my front teeth and when they were removed I got a wire glued on the back of my front two teeth to keep them together. How long does this wire stay on or is it permenant ? The Teeth have not moved so is it necessary to have the wire on?

The wire behind your teeth should stay on indefinitely, it is your permanent retainer. The teeth have not moved because you have the retainer. You may have your permanent retainer checked by an orthodontist, or your general dentist when you have an exam, just to make sure that you don't have any loose area of your permanent retainer.
