I'm on my first tray, and now I've caught my husband's horrible cold. He's been sick for a week! I don't look forward to being sick and trying to keep these trays in my mouth. Any advice? Thanks.
Answer: Using #Invisalign, while sick ... #DrSoftTouch Hi Patty,I would suggest just making sure that you rinse and brush more regularly, while combating a cold. It is easier for bacteria to set-up or a virus to hang around on Invisalign trays, where normally, your saliva coat it and help pass it to your stomach to be destroyed by stomach acid. However, when hanging onto the trays, these bacteria and viruses have an easier way to enter your upper respiratory system. So, the trays will not make you sick, though it is more important to keep them clean during times of minor colds. Good luck and I hope this helps. Answer: Invisalign and Being Sick You can certainly put your treatment on pause if you are sick. Just wear it for a few hours a day until you are well, then continue full-time when you are better. This will just prolong your treatment time, which is really not a big issue. Make sure you have the full prescribed number of weeks in your initial trays before proceeding with the new set. Update your doctor next time you see him/her.

Answer: Invisalign can be put on hold when ill. Invisalign can be put on hold when you are ill. If you can't wear the aligners as directed when you are ill, it still would be good if you can at least wear them part time for a few hours a day, probably when awake, but do not move forward with new aligners. Make sure they are still fitting well when you wear them. If the fit is a concern, then back up the trays until you find ones that fit well. Do not progress with further trays until you are well again and can wear them the necessary 22 hours/day. See your orthodontist/dentist with all trays given to you so he/she can determine where to begin again. What you don't want to do is just stop wearing them and lose all you previously gained, unless of course, you are just at the start of your treatment.
