Can tearing chest muscle cause implant/capsule rupture?

Question

I either badly strained or teared muscle in my chest wall due to dead lifting too much weight. Ever since then, my chest wall, breast on that side and also arm is sore and irritated. I have been resting the injury and am awaiting xray. I am wondering if there could be damage/rapture to my 9 years old implant which is placed over, not under, the muscle. I am worried implant or its capsule could rapture due to trauma to chest wall. What are the chances of this happening?

It is extremely unlikely that your implant or capsule has been damaged, but I would recommend getting a mammogram to help allay your concern. While the mammogram is not going to be 100% effective at seeing a problem it is the safest, easiest, cheapest test that may help you. Good luck!

Thank you for your question. Implants are generally designed to withstand such damage. Follow up with your board certified surgeon to address your concern and see if an MRI might be necessary to asses the integrity of your implants. Good luck!

Implants are not easily ruptured and are made resilient to a great amount of external force. Breast implant damage only usually occurs from direct penetrating wounds or excessive stress on the chest. Muscle tear usually does not affect the integrity of implants. However, this does not mean that implants are impossible to damage with such circumstances.
