Can an implant be placed where my wisdom tooth was? (Bone loss)

My wisdom teeth were removed with zero impaction or problems. There is now a noticeable change in my profile, probably due to bone loss. Can an implant be placed there to prevent bone loss? Would it be safe?

Typically and in almost all cases an implant is never placed where a wisdom tooth is/was. This is not done in most ideal situations. On rare occasions there are some limited indications for temporary anchorage for some orthodontic treatments; however these are temporary and are removed after completion of treatment. With respect to a change in your profile, it is very unlikely that loss of your wisdom teeth led to this.

While implants are typically placed in areas where functional teeth were lost, placing an implant in the wisdom tooth area is less common since wisdom teeth generally do not have a functional role in chewing or aesthetics.
However, if you're noticing a change in your profile due to bone loss, there are options that may help. Placing an implant in the wisdom tooth area could technically be done, but it may not be necessary or beneficial in this case, as the bone in this area may be challenging for implant placement, and it doesn’t typically provide structural or aesthetic support.

Hello. Wisdom teeth removal does not change your profile. Masseter and buccinator muscles have a volume enough to support and determine your tissue profile. This tissue profile doesn't change with the exrraction of wisdom teeth. Additionally, very few people's dental arch is large enough to have a sufficient space for wisdom teeth to be able to clean, chew. So, mostly the places of wiadom teeth should remain empty for a better oral hygiene.
