Tubal ligation and a gastric sleeve. What would be the appropriate order or recovery time frame between the two?

I want to lose weight however every time I do so I become a "Fertile Myrtle" and my husband and I are done having children. We have been over this with my OBGYN that I want a tubal ligation. But I am concerned it may interfere with my ability to obtain a gastric sleeve. Any advice or information would be greatly appreciated.

If you are scheduled for a tubal ligation you should give your body time to recover. Normally a timeframe of 6 weeks is good. Then you could proceed with your sleeve surgery. Coordinate this with your OB/GYN and bariatric surgeon. I wish you the best. Dr. Alvarez

Hello, I hope you are well. A gastric sleeve in no way would interfere with the possibility of getting a tubal ligation. However, as I understand it, based on what you said, your weight is interfering with your fertility? If so, it is highly likely your weight is also interfering with other hormonal processes and your overall health. Therefore, I would recommend making your weight loss journey a priority. Generally speaking it is a lot safer to undergo a surgical procedure on a healthy weight/good health conditions. So, even if its not a contraindication, it would be beneficial to address your weight loss before undergoing a tubal ligation. I want to remind you there are other methods of birthcontrol you can try in the mean time.

That's an easy one.  You should have them both at the same time.  I've done that several times.  The tubal ligation only adds 5 minutes to the operation.Failing that, it shouldn't matter that you've had a tubal ligation when considering having bariatric surgery.
