Fat distribution after lipo?

Thanks so much for your question!  After liposuction, the fat cells in the area will not return.  If a patient gains weight after liposuction, the existing fat cells can enlarge, including those in your buttocks.  The areas undergoing liposuction will have fewer fat cells so those areas will not increase in size as much.

Liposuction in one area depletes fat cells in that area.  As a result, if a patient gains weight, the fat will be stored in other areas of the body preferentially.  Liposuction of the abdomen, flanks, and thighs reduces the number of cells in those areas and the propensity for gain in the future.  Fat will be less likely to return to the places that have been liposuctioned. Fat cells can always increase in size with weight gain.
