Is This Hypopigmentation 5 Days After Chemical Peel? What Can Be Done? (photo)

I had a chemical peel 5 days ago here in Los Angeles. Glycolic Peel, and n one area I have a light spot which I believe to be hypopigmentation, it doesnt appear to be white its just lighter than the rest of my face. I have a feeling that its going to come back, is there anything I can use to speed up skin cell production for aftercare I was given Locoid, Cloderm, and CeraVe Pm moisturizing lotion.

Based on the picture, it appears that you had some irritation from the peel and have some mild hypopigmentation (skin lightening). This will likely resolve. Moisturize and wear sunscreen. The risk with any chemical peel is burn, infection, scar and discoloration. Glycolic acid peels are generally low risk peels. This depends, however, on whether it was appropriately selected and appropriately performed. Be sure to discuss your experience with the person who performed the peel. Good luck!

Pre and post-peel instructions may vary from one clinic to another, but there is congruity in the use of very mild skin care and sunscreen several days before and after the procedure. Adverse reactions can occur during or after the peel if the instructions are not well followed. It is also important to know that there are always risks associated with doing chemical peels and it is important to choose the right peel for your skin type and particular situation. From what I could see on the picture, it looks like a very intense reaction. I would recommend keeping it moist with petroleum jelly and staying out of the sun. wear a hat if you need to go out and a high SPF physical sunscreen for at least a month till it completely heals. I recommend contacting the clinic where you received your treatment, as they should know your skin and history very well and advise you accordingly. One last piece of advice good for anyone reading this; an overcast sky doesn't mean we don't have to wear sunscreen. Some UV rays go thru the clouds and still wreck havoc in our skin. Good luck!
