Why is my incision line black? (Photo)

Hello, I'm three weeks post touch up lipo. I noticed that my incision lines are black, the dr didn't used any stitches to close the sutures. When they healed I had a scab and took good care of it. Is this black line going to fade? Im not using any lotion or oils on my skin. I did not have this problem with my first incisions on my first lipo five months ago. My next follow up is in three months.

With darker colored skin, this is common especially in the early post-operative period.  There are topical creams that can help these scars fade if the hyperpigmentation continues to persist past the next several months.  However, I would say do nothing for now except address these concerns with your plastic surgeon.

In patients with darker complexions the skin often times will release excess melanin during the healing process. This will make it look darker and will improve as they wound matures.

There may be color change due to your initial darker skin type. I would suggest starting with a bleaching/lightening cream and if not improved consider a q-switched laser treatment.   Either way, this does not look as it if will harm you. Best, Dr. Emer.

At 3 weeks postop after liposuction, everything is still in its early stages of healing. Over time the incisions should fade. Readdress this concern with your plastic surgeon in a month or so if this continues to be an issue. Thank you for sharing your photo and concerns. Best wishes.
