Why do I have pain when I bite into food with a fixed upper frontal 6 point bridge?

I recently got a fixed bridge, pontic-porcelain fused to high noble metal #7 #8 #9 #10 and crown-porcelain fused high noble metal #6 #11. Whenever I try and bite into any food (bread, banana) it hurts. When I went to my dentists office to inquire about it I was told that I will have to tear my food now that I will no longer be able to bite into food because I have a 6 point bridge. Is this correct? When I had the temp bridge I was able to bite into pizza with no pain at all. Please help.
