I suggest patients tape their scars with paper tape (such as micropore) or silicon tape for up to 3 months post surgery. After that then massage with moisturiser (such as sorbolene) or scar creams (such as Bio Oil) is useful. Many patients prefer to start the massage sooner - that is ok with me too and I encourage patients to massage the area away from the scar as soon as 2 weeks post op, and the scar itself from around 6 weeks if no longer keen on using the tape on the scar.Kind regards,Dean
I usually tell patient to wait ~3 weeks prior to using scar creams or massage of the scars. Prior to that time, disruption of the surgical repair is more common than improvement in the scars.

I require that my patients stop smoking 2 to 4 weeks before and after surgery as smoking can greatly interfere with the healing process. You need to make sure your surgeon is aware of your smoking and you should stop right now. Good luck.
