Root canal post exposed. What are my options? What happens if I leave this untreated? (photo)

My bottom left tooth had a root canal done that I never got a crown on. About 3 months ago the tooth chipped away and now there's hardly any tooth left.. I have a large hole with 2 silver posts sticking out. What are my options?

Based off the photo, you need to see your dentist immediately.  In some cases, the tooth can still be saved by redoing the root canal and post and build up, however, if this is not possible in your case, you will need to have the tooth extracted.  If you leave this untreated, you can end up with a large infection that can effect the adjacent teeth.

Hi:From the photo it seems you have to extract the roots.  Leaving it untreated can cause gum and tooth infection.  My suggestion is to go to a dentist right away for treatment.Best,Dr. Maddahi

It appears that you need to have this tooth extracted by your dentist and evaluate for a dental implant. If left untreated you risk having an infection in the area.
