Can placement of abdominal mesh be done at the same time as a hysterectomy?

In 2015 I had the DIEP Flap procedure. Due to a weakening of the fascia I now have a prominent and off centered bulge. Several surgeons have told me the only repair is the placement of mesh in my abdomen. Completely unrelated, but now I need a hysterectomy. I was wondering if both these procedures can be performed at the same time.

Yes, both can be done at the same time and should be done at the same time. It is very common for hernias to be repaired in conjunction with another operation. Ask your OBGYN for a referral to a General Surgeon. Best of luck.

its certainly possible to do these at the same time, but some surgeons would recommend doing so separately as they may be concerned with risk of infection of the mesh
