How long does it take for IPL burn scars to heal? (photo)

The Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation was caused by heat from the IPL when spot treating the forehead. This can easily be corrected by treating the area with microdermabrasion, chemical exfoliation, skincare such as hydroquinone (skin lightener) and yes even IPL again at a lower energy level. It is important to follow up with your healthcare provider that initially treated you to provide an opportunity to correct this issue.

I recommend getting a formal evaluation with a cosmetic dermatologist for after care. I recommend silicone gel with growth factors and hyperbaric oxygen to promote healing. Any pigmentation can be improved with a combination of lasers, Aerolase, microneedling/prp, skin lightening, peels, and skin care. Sun protection is essential. See an expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Hello,This is very unfortunate; however, it would appear that the hyperpigmentation (dark color) is superficial and may respond well to a topical bleaching product once the skin is completely healed. Q-switched YAG lasers also address this reaction of "post inflammatory hyperpigmentation", but the topical approach would be more cost effective. If your treatment was very recent, it may be beneficial to see if the color improves gradually.  However, it's understandable that you may not want to allow time to gradually fade the discoloration. Your skin type/color is more prone to this negative response even more so with IPL treatments.  In our practice, we find that lasers offer a much better approach than IPL in reducing the risk of this reaction.  We suggest you speak with your practitioner to have them offer feedback on how to manage this reaction of your skin.  In the meantime, please be diligent with gentle skin care and diligent sunscreen use and protection at all times until resolved.
