Is it safe to have my lap band inflated while I am having chemotherapy?

Question

I have had my lap band deflated for surgery and have gained a few kilos. Is it safe for it to be inflated while I am having chemotherapy? Bearing in mind having steroids administered (Undesirable side effects of prednisone therapy include gastric or duodenal ulcers).

It’s best to wait  until you finish with  chemotherapy since  it can affect  your nutrition and  make you nauseous. The steroids are usually  not a problem if you are taking an antacid for  protection during treatment. If  the chemotherapy  is going to be given in several cycles   over  a “long” period of time, the band could be adjusted, just make sure it doesn't prevent you from having the right amount of nutrients and that it does not contribute  to vomiting right after meals.

Hi Dreadhead, first of all I am sorry for what you are going trought. I do not think that at this stage this is necessary, maybe it is a little better to wait until your chemotherapy gets better results.
The lap band can create some symptons of itself, like nausea primarely. So maybe it is better to wait and see how your evolution goes.

You will definitely have to speak to your oncologist, my opinion is not to have it ajustes as you might experience nausea.
