Can finasteride lead to a higher voice?

I am a seasoned singer and due to Corona our Choir was shut down. I have been taking 1mg finasteride daily for about two months now. I realized that my voice moved about three semitone steps upwards, making me a pure Tenor now. I really dislike the change.

This is a great question and one we don’t have good evidence. There are patients who do report this- but how common it is is unknown. If a patient stops finastand finds the voice goes down it provides some stronger evidence but still not 100 % evidence. If a medication is affecting any part of a person’s life, consultation with a doctor is needed. There are many options available.

Thank you for an excellent question. I have taking and recommending Finasteride 1 mg for more than 20 years and I never heard about similar side effect, it could be possible but I haven't read or heard about that. Any other possible cause about your voice changed? Any other possible side effect?
I know that it is very, very important issue for you. I  will recommend you to decrease to .25 mg daily and/or to contact the Dr who prescribed the medication for some additional options. Good luck.
