Can subcision be safely combined with Sculptra? (Photos)

My doctor wants to do subcision and 1 vial of sculptra together in 1 treatment session for my acne scars and overall face volumization. Is there any risk involved in combining these 2 together? My main concern is I wont be able to massage Sculptra after the treatment. Are there any other risks involved during the procedure itself? any precautions that should be taken?

Yes, Sculptra can be combined with subcision to improve acne scars. Usually acne scars require a combination approach to get improvement. I recommend lasers, microneedling/prp, subcision and Bellafill and/or Sculptra. It may take a series of treatments and may need some treatments to maintain. I recommend getting a formal evaluation with an acne scarring expert. Best, Dr. Emer

Dear Keving- Your acne scars are severe and ideal for improvement with the proper treatment.I have been an advocate of Sculptra for decades.... long before it was approved in the usa. Subcision is terrific for releasing the scar. The two used together is a bad idea.Sculptra takes time to create volume. The space created by subcision requires immediate volume to keep the space from immediately returning to the way it was prior to their release.Sculptra is not a good choice for combination with subcision. Sorry. You would be much better treated by use of your own fat, or other fillers.

This can be safely combined in one session. I don't see why massaging can't be done. I agree that volume is needed to improve the scar and overall facial appearance .

Thank you for your question and submitting your pictures. There should be no problem with doing subcision with your Sculptra injections. There should not be a contraindication to massaging the area following subcision although you may see some bruising from that process. I hope this was helpful - Dr. Moore.

In my opinion I prefer separate sessions. But sometimes I offer combination if acne scarring is moderate to mild. If severe I would separate the sessions..
