Is this amount of scabbing normal three weeks after a breast reduction? (Photos)

Question

I am almost three weeks post op from my breast reduction. I feel great for the most part! However I am concerned because I still have a lot of scabbing on my right breast (on the "T" inscision). My surgeon explained that he removed quite a bit more from my right breast. Could this be a result of slower healing? What is the normal duration to keep scabs? I have an appointment with him in two weeks, should I make an appointment before then?

Congratulations on having undergone the breast reduction procedure; this operation tends to be one of the most patient pleasing operations we perform. It is not unusual for one side to heal differently than the other. Likewise, some "scabbing" is not unusual.  It is possible, that once the scabs lift off, that the appearance of the incision lines will look worse (for example yellowish drainage), before they look better.  In my experience, the scabs should be lifted and healing much further along by the time you are at the 2 month post op mark. It is always good to communicate your concerns/questions directly with your plastic surgeon;  he/she  may want to see you earlier that already scheduled (based on your photographs, I do not think there is any urgency). Best wishes for an outcome that you will be pleased with longer-term.

Scabbing can occur, even if it is on one breast and not the other. One breast tends to heal differently than the other. Especially if there is a lot more removed on one. I don't see anything that requires an urgent appointment. I would simply communicate your scabs to your surgeon and ask them what treatment they would like you to use. Every surgeon is a bit different on this. You can expect this to heal with good long-term results. It will just take a little longer on this side. Congratulations on having a reduction!
