I’m using Tretinoin but I’m allergic to most sunscreens, what can I use for UV protection otherwise?

Hello! I’m not sure which ingredient I’m specifically allergic to, but I’ve had an allergic reaction to every sunscreen I’ve ever tried since I was a small child. I react with extreme burning hives on my cheeks that don’t subside for a week. it’s extremely painful so I’m not exactly willing to test out different ingredients. I have always simply used hats to protect myself from the sun and that’s been very effective. I live close to the beach and have only had 2 sunburns that barely touched my face. I also use a mineral powder foundation, which I also think helps. Is there any recommendation for sunscreen using tretinoin for folks who are allergic to typical sunscreen like myself? Physical barriers – As you mentioned, mineral powder foundations can provide some protection. Zinc oxide and titanium dioxide in powders are generally less irritating than liquid sunscreens. Applying a generous, even layer can give modest UV coverage.

Shade and timing – Limiting direct sun exposure, especially between 10 AM and 4 PM, is very effective. Beach umbrellas or portable shade can be lifesavers.

Hi! Depending on which ingredient you are allergic to you could mineral sunscreen or spf with no zinc in them. I would try to do a sunscreen with no zinc in it & see if that is the ingredient your allergic to!
