Without a photo it is hard to tell whether a surgical repair would be necessary. Often times people will find that filler in the earlobe will give enough support, however if your lobes were gauged then they may need surgical repair. There are no topical options that are effective for this treatment.
Fat transfer or filler injections are a safe and common way to "fatten up" thinning earlobes. You can speak to your plastic surgeon about it.
Earlobe repair is a very common procedure. Frequently, we have patients who will have the procedure done the same day as the consultation. Typically, the cost is between $450-850 per earlobe, depending on the severity and the length of the procedure. You may be able to find a doctor who will do this under insurance but i am not aware of any.The length of time the ears have been gauged should have no effect on the procedure. As long as the tissue is no longer irritated or inflamed, there is no reason not to give it a try. Gauged ears are sometimes more difficult than some other earlobe repairs since the tissue is so over stretched, but we are still able to create a natural looking earlobe. You can get your ear re pierced about 6 weeks after and should be included in the pricing. Shop around in your area and see if you can find a plastic surgeon in your budget
A great way to plump up the ear lobes is actually to inject a dermal filler. Many of the dermal fillers would work in this area, I often just use a little bit of a syringe of what I am using in the face for patients that have earlobe concerns.
Hello Yeacurtis3,There is no specific cream or ointment to plump up ear lobes. Continued use of gauges, especially if you are still going up in size, will cause progressive thinning and atrophy of the earlobe. If you are still interested in using gauges then a filler or fat transfer can help to plump them up. If you are interested in closing the gauge surgically then that will also improve the size which can then be later improved with fillers or fat grafting. I hope this helps and good luck.
In short, no, there is not a specific cream or oil to fatten up thinning earlobes. I have helped several people with injections of fillers and fat grafting is an option., but less likely to be successful especially if you are still going up in gauge sizes.Garrett Wirth, MD, MS, FACSWirthPlasticSurgery.com
Earlobe repair is a common procedure in our plastic surgery office. I employ a technique that involves removing the excess scar tissue and reapproximating the tissue planes in multiple layers to recontour the earlobe after gauges, torn earlobes, or stretched out earlobes. Sometimes, the same...
Torn earlobes if they are the result of an acute traumatic incident will usually be reimbursed by most insurance carriers. Please check your company policy statement on this for the most accurate answer. Please use this information when consulting in person with an experienced Board...
Thank you for the question. If you remove the piercing at this point, only a few days after the piercing has been performed, the opening will close on its own with minimal scarring. Best wishes.
