I have flat scars on my forearm. Most of my scars are light, but I have two areas that are a few shades darker than the surrounding skin. I am looking for the best options for removing these cars. Thank you

Our treatments use combination therapy to improve the epidermis and dermis for most deep scars. The options available for acne scars depend on the character of your scars, in terms of topography and contour. We see atrophic and hypertrophic acne scars, as well as scars that have hypo and hyperpigmentation. We begin each scar evaluation with an assessment of scar quality and subtype. Our main concern is rebuilding collagen and that is why we use a HIDEF protocol that includes combination therapy. Morpheus 8, scar subcision, fibrous release, fractional laser, CO2 laser, Thulium laser, PDL Vbeam laser, and fractional resurfacing can be used in addition to TCA Cross and chemical peels to further improve skin. Patients should start Melarase AM and Melarase PM for active hyperpigmentation. Always begin with a consultation to decide whether early subcision should be started.

Microneedling with PRP can be an Excellent choice for you. This procedure is performed at a Medical office. We use a special device that has tiny needles that create microchannels on your skin and start a cascade of growth and repair on the area treated. This will improve the depth, length and overall look of the scars, even the darker once. You can also use Hydroquinone cream on the darker aspects of the scars for a few weeks. Using an SPF daily will also help maintain your results.

Thank you for your question and photograph. It's difficult to evaluate your skin through this type of forum, but from what I can see, it looks like you have hyperpigmentation, which are the dark spots, and hypopigmented scars (white scars). There are topical medications that can help lighten the darker spots, but unfortunately, no topical or laser treatment can remove the white scars. However, newer options that can help minimize the appearance of white scars is medical tattooing, where tattoos can be done to scars to match the adjacent normal skin color. I highly recommend you consult with a board certified dermatologist or plastic surgeon to discuss treatment options that best suit your needs. Take care and good luck.
