Laser hair removal safe during pregnancy?

Question

I heard with my hormones being higher it could cause more of a “sunburn”, but I was wondering if it’s safe for baby and myself? Do I tell them to turn down the power? I’m 16 weeks along.

Thank you for your question. You do not want to do any type of Laser Hair Removal treatments while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Hormone fluctuation of any kind, including pregnancy can cause more hair growth.  There is no research indicating that it is not safe to do laser hair removal during pregnancy, however, we generally do not do laser on pregnant women because if something happened to the pregnancy after a laser treatment it would be difficult to decipher it was due to the laser or coincidental timing.  Therefore, we err on the side of caution and avoid treating pregnant women with laser.

It is best to avoid laser hair removal during pregnancy.  For one, your hormones are changing so significantly your skin could react differently or it could not work and more hair will grow or change after the pregnancy.  Technically it should not penetrate enough to harm the fetus, but I would still wait.

Hello and thank you for your question. To my knowledge, there are no studies on this subject. That being said, I would not advise getting laser treatment while pregnant. In this case, I would rather err on the safe side.
