Fainted Twice in One Day After Breast Augmentation

Question

i had my breasts done one week ago. i felt good over the weekend. On day three, while changing my dressings in the a.m. and removing them a few hours later to shower, i felt dizzy, light headed and nautious and fainted...twice with in a few hours. What could be causing this? I am on vicoden for pain (which isnt much), cephalexin (antibiotics) promethazine (suppository-only when neded). Already called my ps but waiting for him to call back.

This is never a good sign however it could be due to the medication or blood loss from surgery ,make sure you contact the doctor and followup to ensure your vital signs are ok.

The most common cause of fainting is a vaso-vagal reaction, a reflex like response caused by a situation perceived as 'traumatic'. For some the sight of a needle will do. Of course without an examination we cannot say just might be causing your fainting and you should be seen by your surgeon. While waiting for a call rest, fluids, and a cold cloth on the face and forehead will help.

If you recently have had a surgery, such as breast augmentation, and are on a significant amount of pain medicine, you may be more prone to fainting. Be careful getting up quickly from bed or unwrapping the breasts and then getting into a hot shower - both of these activities can cause a vaso-vagal effect that can result in a sudden decrease in blood pressure which could result in fainting. This should resolve over time, but if it recurs, check back with your surgeon.

Neither I nor anyone can tell you for certain the cause for your fainting 3 days following your augmentation when otherwise doing well. The most likely reason from the info you provided is a vasovagal reaction. All of your other symptoms fit and it could be simply reacting to some blood you saw on your dressing. You should check with your surgeon, however, to make sure it is nothing more serious.
