With lighter skin types, 4 weeks apart is a good time period. With darker skin types (Fitz 4), I typically will be slightly more conservative at 6 weeks between treatments. I probably would opt not to get chemical peels until the process is completed (resume chemical peels 4-6 weeks after the last treatment) as pico will stimulate collagen and minimize pigmentation. It is also good to purely do one treatment to conclusion, evaluate the skin and then proceed as needed. Make sure to sun protect with SPF of at least 30 before, during and after the laser treatments.
I recommend 6 weeks between PicoSure treatments. I absolutely support a MILD chemical peel after the PicoSure laser, it really adds to the effects of the PicoSure. I recommend the peel within 1-2 weeks of the laser which means you need at least 4 weeks from time of peel to the next laser treatment. Look at my before/after pic for my PicoSure patient in my profile. She had 6 chemical peels along with the 3 PicoSure lasers.

Melasma can be very difficult to treat. It is often very reactive to heat. Our melasma protocol is to use a low pulse count with the Flat lens and keep the surface cool with our chiller unit. We retreat every 4 weeks for 3-6 treatments. I hope this helps.
