How long will malar edema after filler last?

Question

34 year old woman with terrible first time filler experience. I had filler injected in tear trough area 10 months ago. I developed Tyndall effect under one of the eyes due to poor injection technique. The filler was dissolved (multiple attempts) but I have had swelling under that eye ever since. I have tried laser treatments, Xela Rederm, and nothing has worked. Recently I was told from a Dr. it was likely molar edam and nothing could be done. Am I stuck with this forever?

I am sorry you are having this diffculty. I have treated quite a few patients with this so-called undereye "puffy pillow" condition (actually infraorbital lymphedema) who were treated with fillers elsewhere with either the wrong choice of filler and/or an incorrect injection technique. Admittedly, it is typically a persistent problem and is difficult, but fortunately, in many cases, not impossible to treat and improve. I have found that combining hyaluronidase with other anti-inflammatory agents--in differing combinations, amounts and concentrations (occasionally supplemented with light electrodessication) to be extremely useful for shrinking these puffy pillows. Make certain to see an experienced, board certified cosmetic dermatologist. Best of luck.
