Hi! I have developed discoloration around my mouth area that seems to become darker with years. I believe the fact that I thread my upper lip hairs, might be the cause of this discoloration. What should I do? I do have some great products from skinceuticals etc, but it does not help as I continue to thread my upper lip hairs. Could IPL laser hair removal be a solution and then treat the area with right products? Thanks beforehand!

Answer: Treating PIH Thank you for your question and posting a picture. It looks ands sounds like you have Post Inflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH). First, if your hair is dark, I would recommend of course of LHR with a laser and not an IPL.For the hyperpigmentation, we have been very successful using the PicoSure laser with the FOCUS and / or Flat Lenses eliminating hyperpigmentation with a series of treatments. FOCUS lens treatments have the extra benefit of reducing fine lines, wrinkles and scars. This is one of our go to treatments for patients older than 40 and worried about the signs of aging. This laser is safe for all skin types. Start with sunscreen every day! Once you have treated your hyperpigmentation to your satisfaction, you will probably need a follow treatment every 6 to 12 months depending your level of re-pigmentation. Best of luck.
