Topical steroids are very helpful for scarring alopecias and autoimmune conditions like alopecia areata. I suspect however that this is not what you are referring to in which case using a topical steroid won’t help. If you are not sure what kind of hair loss you have, be sure to see a physician expert.
Betamethasone is a steroid. Although it can be used to treat different types of inflammatory disorders that can lead to hair loss, it will not help with male pattern hair loss.
Dear Khirad,Hello and thank you for your excellent question. In general, I do not recommend topical steroids for hair loss treatment. It is best to answer your question during a face-to-face evaluation, when you can discuss your goals and expectations for the procedure, and you can have a physical examination to evaluate for that procedure. I recommend that you find a board-certified, or board-eligible plastic surgeon with whom you are comfortable. Be sure to have all of your questions answered during a face-to-face meeting with your surgeon, and review before and after pictures of similar patients whom have had this procedure. If you have any questions, call our office for assistance. Good luck!
