Hi Shanta,Yes, you are right, a 5 cc difference is not a lot, nor is a 25 cc difference.  A teaspoon is 5cc and an ounce is 30cc.  So between the 425 versus 450, this is less than one ounce. As you mentioned, the implant is also flattened somewhat when under the muscle, so it is a good idea to bump it up a bit. Approximately 25-50 cc (about1-2 oz.) is added to the final volume to account for flattening of the implant in the partial sub-muscular pocket. Once you decide on a size you like, then add on about 25-50 cc, because in real life the implant will be flattened slightly by your tissues.  Only you can judge how big the 3-D image looks to you.  You are going pretty big if you are petite.  See the video below.  All the

It's good to see that you are doing your homework. 400cc is a very popular size and you will get a great result. Predicting cup size is impossible. You can be a C cup in one manufacturer and possibly a D cup in another.When selecting implant size, shape, and profile - I recommend the following:1.Bring goal photographs to demonstrate potential
size and shape. This gives your surgeon an idea of “the look” you are going
after.2.Trying on sizers in the office. Sizer will give
a physical/PALPABLE demonstration of how the implants will change the volume of
your breasts. See yourself in a full size mirror while trying on these sizers.
We have tight fitting t-shirts to wear over the sizers to show how you will
look with the implants.3.Using 3D imaging (offered in my office) to
provide a VISUAL demonstration of how the implants will change your breasts and
the look that you will likely achieve. The software is super cool (CRISALIX)
and actually allows me to select the implant manufacturer and size.

Be open with your surgeon and it never hurts to go back a
second time with a loved one to confirm the implant size before surgery.

Having an implant under the muscle is beneficial for safety reasons.The muscle adds some volume but also flattens the upper pole a bit.I typically do not increase volume for this.My sizing is always based on precise measurements of your chest.The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.Please see a board-certified plastic surgeon that specializes in aesthetic and restorative breast surgery.best of luck!Dr Schwartz

Thank you for the question. In my opinion, it is not possible to accurately determine how many CCs the you would “lose” when undergoing sub muscular breast augmentation surgery. I would suggest that you do not make your decisions based on statement such as: “you will lose 50 cc of volume when breast implants are placed under the muscle”. These statements are simply not reliable enough to utilize clinically. Generally speaking, the best online advice I can give to ladies who are considering breast augmentation surgery (regarding breast implant size/profile selection) is:1. Concentrate on choosing your plastic surgeon carefully. Concentrate on appropriate training, certification, and the ability of the plastic surgeon to achieve the results you are looking for. Ask to see lots of examples of his/her work. Sometimes, it is necessary to seek several consultations before you feel comfortable about your choice.2. Have a full discussion and communication regarding your desired goals with your plastic surgeon. This communication will be critical in determining breast implant size/type/profile will most likely help achieve your goals. In my practice, the use of photographs of “goal” pictures (and breasts that are too big or too small) is very helpful. I have found that the use of words such as “natural” or "C or D cup” etc means different things to different people and therefore prove unhelpful. Also, as you know, cup size varies depending on him who makes the bra; therefore, discussing desired cup size may also be inaccurate. Again, best not to discuss your goals and/or judge the outcome of the procedure performed based on achieving a specific cup size. The use of computer imaging may be very helpful during the communication process. The use of in bra sizers may also be helpful. In other words, use as many “visual aids” as possible during the communication process. I encourage patients to meet with me as my times as necessary, to feel comfortable that we are both on the “same page”. 3. Once you feel you have communicated your goals clearly, allow your plastic surgeon to use his/her years of experience/judgment to choose the breast implant size/profile that will best meet your goals. Again, in my practice, this decision is usually made during surgery. The standard approach to breast augmentation with decades of experience (mine and others) is that implants do better both short term and long term when they are under the pectoralis muscle (which doesn't cover the implant in the lower pole or lateral side). The decision for placement of the implant should be based on experience, not the size of the implant. It is true that the same implant placed above the muscle will LOOK bigger than the same implant placed behind the pectoralis muscle, but implants look better and do better with the added padding and protection of the muscle and the size effects of various implants placed behind the muscle are quite well known. Implants are sized by fitting them to the width of your breast and choosing a forward volume (profile) for the size increase effect, not by choosing a number of cc's and working backwards. Unless your breasts are unusually wide or narrow for your chest, an implant that fits the internal width of your breasts (smooth surface, round, under the pec) will make your breasts look 1-2 cup sizes larger than they started out depending on your choice of lowest to highest profile (forward volume). The number of cc's is found by looking up the proper width/diameter of implant in the profile you choose for the effect. Although not exact, it is a far better way to determine that the implant will fit and what effect it will have than the 3D imaging or using external sizers. 

First of all, I do not understand the concept of "losing cc's under the muscle".  Having performed over 6,000 breast implant procedures over the past 20-plus years, I have never heard of, or witnessed, such a concept.  The 3D image you present here does not at all look too big.  However, in my practice, we have found 3D imaging to not always be very accurate in predicting what will achieve the patients's final desired result (always our ultimate goal).  Best of luck to you in achieving the final optimal result you desire.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. Only you can decide what is too big for you.From the point of view of plastic surgeons we advise the size based on measurement of your breast base and your skin fold thickness and tightness of your skin on chest. In my practise , I find that often our calculations give a smaller size than what some skinny , petite women desire. I provide preop sizers to women to wear under the bra, and they select a certain size based on that . If we are going under the muscle, its preferred to choose the size 25-50 cc above the selected size.   If you are skinny and petite  then 400-450 cc may be bigger for you. If you stick to smaller sizes according to your measurements, breast continue to look and feel more natural for very long time . Larger implants can have problems like bottoming out, visibility of edges, palpability etc. Once these things have been made clear, if the woman still wants a certain size then I go ahead and place it , if its technically not inadvisable. In your case , you may consider smaller implants .
