Can temple filler be used to help correct overfilled cheeks? (Photo)

Question

I was overfilled with filler on one side of my cheeks. As You can see it makes me now appear sunken in at my temples particular on one side - and it has and me. I do not want to use a dissolver bc it comes with the risk of affecting my own elasticity. Do you think adding fillers to the temple area on my right side- the left side in picture could help fix the proportion and make me look less sunken? Please advise - I am very upset by how I look and would like to find an alternative solution.

I know you might not like this answer, but the correct thing here is to dissolve the filler. If you have filler you do not like, get rid of it. Do not fall down the dangerous path of chasing one bad outcome with additional treatments. You are going to spend more and more money and time trying one thing to correct another and end up more unhappy than where you started and looking over-filled.

Hello Scogrady.  Hyluronidase products such as Hylenex do not affect your own hyaluronic acid or the elasticity of your skin.  They are only designed to break the bonds that hold synthetic Hyaluronic acid particles together.  If you think your cheeks are overfilled, I would opt for dissolving them.  At our practice it would be a few hundred dollars and not thousands.  With that said, if you have Voluma injected there it is much more difficult to dissolve and will take more visits.

Based on your photo, it seems that your cheeks have been slightly overfilled. Temple fillers can improve the balance of your overall face shape. Sometimes to fill the areas of volume loss and to give a natural look, fillers have to be continued up to the temple and in some cases even up to the hairline. Hope this helps.

Hi there! Thank you for your question. I am so sorry that you are unsatisfied with your filler results. I know that can be distressing. The simple answer to your question is yes, filling your temples will help balance you out a bit, and soften that transition between the cheek and temple, so that it does not look so drastic. I often explain this to patients that get cheek filler and/or naturally have high and full cheek bones. If the temples are ignored, patients eventually get what we affectionately call a "peanut head" appearance. That said, your left cheek is very full, and a small amount of Hylenex may help bring it down a little bit, which may be necessary, even after adding the temple filler. I would not worry too much about the Hylenex affecting your elasticity. This is extremely rare, and something I have never seen in my 14+ years of injecting. Over filling of the Lateral cheeks or even appropriate filling of the lateral cheeks with volume loss of the temples can create the appearance of overfilled cheeks and worsening or sunken temples and a “shelf appearance” of the cheeks.
An experienced injector can fill the temples (off label) with hyaluronic acid filler such as Juvederm Voluma or Restylane Lyft, or. Collagen stimulating filler such as Sculptra Aesthetic

Maybe but recommend HA dissolver in low doses to larger malar/cheek side. Expect at least 8 syringes of HA filler for temples with dissolver fees in $4,000 ranges.

To look natural and fill the areas of volume loss in the face fillers often have to be continued up to the temples and even up to hairline. Ignoring this area of deficit does make shape of face look unnatural and awkward.
