Question

I had a car accident two weeks back where my head hit the steering wheel causing a deep gash on my head. It bled a lot but after it healed on its own, I pulled out the scab accidentally which pulled out a bunch of hair. The photos taken were 2 weeks after the accident. I am worried if any hair will ever grow back? What should I do? Should I wait for a couple months to see if hair grows back, or should I consider some kind of treatment/surgery for hair regrowth? I don't have male pattern baldness

It may take up to a year for hairs to grow back after an accident.  If there is no hair growth after a year, you may consider a hair transplant surgery as an option.

It is likely that the hair will not grow back , but a formal consultation is needed.  If there are hair follicle sthere, they can be stimulated to grow more quickly with rogaine, PRP and progesterone injections.  If there is scar there now without hair follicles, the only option is transplantation to this area.  Best, Dr. Emer.

For injury, the most important thing early on is to keep it clean. There is nothing that can be done at this point to promote hair growth. In 8-10 months you'll know if there is any permanent hair loss or not. It's impossible to predict now as a great deal of change can occur in the months after scalp injury. Hair transplantation into scars or scalp micro pigmentation can work well.

Traumatic incidents can cause hairloss. You will want to wait 12-18 months to see what grows back first. Then meet with a hair specialist to see how well hair restoration will help cover the scarring. Just try to be patient as far as regrowth goes.

with hair loss is a problem if what you are seeing is the result of the formation of a scar. Scars do not have hair on them. If you just wait it out for 8 months, you will know or see a good doctor and that doctor may be able to tell. If the scar is the cause of absence of the hair, then scalp micropigmentation works very well (see web reference below) to treat these problems cosmetically
