Can dandruff cause hair loss?

In short, yes; specially if you are susceptible to male pattern hair loss.  Dandruff is caused by irritation of your scalp and the more irritation your scalp has  (dermatitis) the more inflammatory process that goes on in your scalp, and the more scarring of your follicles occurs. To keep your hair as healthy as possible, your scalp must be as healthy as possible. If you do get dermatitis of the scalp and dandruff, coal tar  would be a good solution for it to use and your shampoo until resolved.

I would suggest making an appointment with your physician to review the exact cause of your concerns. He or she will review your concerns and examine your scalp carefully. In general, dandruff does not cause hair loss unless  it is very severe.
