Delayed underbite surgery. Will I be looking worse?

I have underbite and crowded upper teeth...I have been suggested to get started with braces and 10-12 months down the line, orthodontist will decide whether I am a surgical case or not. As far as I can see, I may not want to go for surgery 12 months down due to some commitments and will have to delay the surgery for another 12 months. So I am ok to go for surgery 24 months down. Now my Q is: Will I be looking much worse (than what I look today) during those 12 months when the surgery is delayed?

I would caution as you move forward to follow the rule "Do No Harm".  There are many ways to reposition  the teeth or reshape them with veneers or bonding.  The fact you say you have a lot of money to spend makes me nervous because you may find yourself buying expensive treatment...
