Will I have to remove composite bonding before I can get braces?

I have composite bonding to fix chips and irregular shapes of my two front teeth and lateral inscisors. My dentist told me that I have might have to my bonding removed before I can get braces due to my overbite. The bonding that I have now currently have chipped and broken on two of my teeth and I want to get redone but I don’t want to get them redone then have to have them removed.

If the bonding is only replacing the natural size and shape of your tooth OR correcting smaller teeth to make them a more natural size, then more than likely it will not need to be removed.  Bonding is removed prior to ortho for two reasons: 1) it interferes with the movement of teeth or the bite 2) the bonding doesn't fall within the range of normal tooth size and hinders movement of teeth.  Brackets can definitely be bond directly to bonding though.  I would not invest in having your bonding replaced prior to braces.  See an orthodontist who will give you a plan and make the final decision about the bonding.  Otherwise, you may invest in the bonding and have to replace it later.
