5wks post op TT and BA. Is it ok to drink? (photo)

Question

Everything been going fine except recently. The middle of my tummy tuck it started spitting a suture, dr cleaned it out cut out what needed to be cut out and told me to pack the hole with gauze 2x day until it heals on it own which he estimated about 3wks my question is with it open like that again would it be ok to drink for New Years or will it slow down healing process? I don't want to do anything that will affect my final results when it heals will there be a hole or will it seal shut?

I would recommend that you discuss this question with your surgeon as every surgeon has their own respective post op protocol for his/her patients.  Your surgeon is your best resource as he/she is most familiar with your medical history and how you are healing at this time.

The best way to assess and give true advice would be an in-person exam.

I usually allow my patients to drink alcohol in moderation 2 weeks after surgery.  It does appear that you are having some wound healing issues, however, mild alcohol consumption is unlikely to disrupt or delay your wound healing any further.Good luck and enjoy your New Year.

Thanks for your question and pics.  Spitting sutures can happen and it appears your are healing nicely.  In my practice as long as no narcotics are being used at 5 weeks, then one can have a drink.  In your case I would ask your plastic surgeon if it's ok. Happy new year and best of luck.

Continue to follow your surgeon's instructions to care for your wound.  They tend to heal well, but slowly.  Drinking in moderation should be fine as long as you are off narcotic pain medication and antibiotics.

It will take a number of weeks for the wound to heal and keep in touch with hour PS during this time. Drinking alcohol should be in moderation and within normal acceptable limits.

Alcohol in moderation >2 weeks out from surgery (and when you are no longer taking narcotic pain medication) should not cause any type of problem. Make sure you are taking a multi vitamin. The hole will eventually shrink down until it is totally gone. The scar in that area will likely be wider when everything is said and done. This can be revised 6 months to one year after your surgery (depends on how fast things soften up etc).

At this point, alcohol intake and wound healing are independent of each other as long as you drink in moderation and definitely do not mix alcohol and pain meds together. Happy New Year!
