What can I use to remove polysporin from my hair without affecting the incision?

I had basal cell carcinoma removed from my scalp. Had 22 staples removed yesterday and the nurse put a lot of polysporin. What can I use to remove the polysporin without affecting the incision?

The most effective agent to remove petroleum jelly, polysporin and other ointments from the hair after surgery is Dawn dish soap.  This should not be used before the incision is completely healed. If there are any open areas along the incision continue to use the polysporin until completely healed at which time you can use the Dawn dish soap.  It doesn't sound very high tech or medical but it works pretty well.  Cody Koch, MD PhD

You'll have to follow your wound care instructions provided by your surgeon, but in our practice, we have patients wash their hair with regular shampoo, then re-apply ointment.  I would call the office of your dermatologic surgeon for their preference.  Good luck!
