Gap between gum and crown - is this normal? (Photos)

Hi! I’ve had this crown for about two years now and have noticed this gap between my gum and the crown, is this normal? I don’t have any pain or sensitivity! I also seem to have this dark “line” in my gums behind the crown!

Hi, good pictures. You appear to have a porcelain-fused-to-metal crown. The metal is an alloy of several metals, including nickel. Many people (more common in women) tend to have nickel metal allergies from exposure to nickel in costume jewelry at a young age. The discoloration and inflammation are normally due to contact dermatitis from the nickel or over-contouring of the crown at the margin between the crown and the tooth. Chronic inflammation can cause the gum tissue to recede. Best solution is to remove that crown and have an all-porcelain crown fabricated.
