I'm thinking of getting bellafill but am wondering if you can have other procedures later on in the same areas of the face the bellafill was placed, such as HA fillers/pdo threads etc. I have read some info that states putting other types of injectables etc. in the same areas can possibly "activate" the bellafill causing it to flare up and cause problems. If this is the case, would this also occur with sculptra? Or does sculptra not have this "activation" risk?

Answer: Possible Complications With Bellafill Filler migration and granuloma formation can cause longterm problems with Bellafill and Artefill fillers. This is similar in patients who have Artecoll and PMMA fillers. Longterm filler complications include migration, edema, chronic swelling, and nodularity. If patients have filler migration or nodules, we recommend a combination approach of filler reversal with enzymes, corticosteroids, and scar tissue modulators. Our HIDEF approach can break down filler scarring and granulomas so that they are less apparent. If the filler material itself does not dissolve, it either means the filler is likely not HA material or is unresponsive to conservative therapy. This technique may be followed by surgical removal of the filler if there is a suitable target for removal and the chance of scarring is low.

Answer: Permanent Fillers Can Translate Into Permanent Problems--Either Immediately Or Down-The-Road Permanent fillers, which I do not recommend for the following reasons, can be responsible not only for immediate problems following treatment, but adverse reactions, such as disfiguring nodule and granuloma development, even five, ten or twenty years down the road, especially if some manipulation or treatment is peformed near the site of their injections. While the idea of "permanent" is admittedly enticing, the idea of difficult-to-treat disfiguring problems certainly is not. These problems can occur many years after permanent filler treatment, say if a dentist manipulates the cheek (where a permanent filler was placed) as part of his/her treatment of a dental issue or if another filler, even an HA filler, is injected in an around the site of the permanent filler. So, it is not necessarily which type of manipulation, be it different filler or threads or energy-based devices, it is the simply the potential "shaking up" so to speak of the underlying permanent filler during the new treatment that is the concern.
