Extra skin/“pre-boob skin” hanging off my new breast implants. I'm almost 5 weeks post op, will it go away? (photos)

Question

Almost 5 weeks post op, see pictures for my concern. Pictures were done today. I love the way my breasts look if my arms are over my head or if they are in clothing but if I lean forward or have my arms relaxed, my implants don’t fall with the natural breast tissue I had before my augmentation. My surgeon said I didn’t need a lift when I had my implants done. They are 590 silicone submuscular. Just concerned about my sagging “old” breast tissue over my implants... will this get better??

Thank you for your question and photograph, and it appears that you will have a very nice result. After placement of implants, the appearance of the breasts will change dramatically over the next several months, as the implants drop, and the overlying tissue stretches to accommodate the extra volume. In your case the swelling from surgery is flattening your implants and holding them high on your chest, which allows your natural breast tissue to hang off the lower portion.  Though they will not get bigger, the volume within the implant will redistribute towards the lower portion of your breast achieving a more natural appearance, and filling your bra cup more.   I know waiting is difficult, but judge your results at 4-6 months after surgery as most of your breast changes should have occurred by then. At five weeks after surgery, there is still some swelling present, and the implants have not settled. This process can take up to three months to be complete. As the implants settle, the problem will improve. If this not resolve all of the drooping present, a mastopexy or lift may be required. Discuss your concerns with your surgeon.

Your implants appear to riding high at this point. Hopefully they will come down and fill out your breast. Once they are down if the breast is still falling off the implant, then you will need a breast lift. Good luck.

Dear Huggbugg,I understand your concern and it is quite normal to be concerned about the outcome following a breast augmentation surgery. However, you are still in the very early stages of the healing process.Your will need to be patient at this moment and follow what your surgeon has instructed you to do post operatively.At the early stage of the healing process, the tissues around the implants are still swollen. Once the swelling subsides and the implants drop to their final position, you will be able to see the final result of your breast augmentation surgery.Daniel Barrett, MD

Its still early, so give this time to allow the implants to drop. Wait at least 3 months. If they do not settle to your satisfaction, you will likely need a breast lift.
