I have 4 veneers on my upper front teeth. They are 13 years old and one in the middle has cracked. Is it necessary to replace all 4 or would replacing only the damaged one be possible?
Answer: Yes, but you may want to consider other options It is possible and difficult to match. If you are trying to do just the one and make it match, the dentist may have to charge more than the typical fee as there may be multiple shade matching appointments and remakes to get it just right. Since the others are 13 years old you may want to consider redoing the 4 and adding the canines and premolars as thin, no-prep/minimal prep veneers to broaden the smile and make it sensational. You were 13 years younger when you had these done and by considering what I am suggesting, you may regain those 13 years in appearance by looking 15 years younger now. For example if you were 35 at the time and you are now 48, you could look closer to 35 again. I have seen this with many of my patients in my 28 years of practice. Just a thought to consider.

Answer: Change single veneer Of course it is possible to replace a singe veneer. The biggest issue isn't damaging the others, its matching the color of your front tooth, very hard to do. A 13 year old veneer has most likely darkened or yellowed, and the dental technician will need to be meticulous to precisely match it. You can also consider just replacing the front middle 2 veneers.Steven M. Goldy, DDS

Answer: Can a single veneer be replaced? A single veneer can be replaced, but it may be difficult to get a perfect shade match with your other veneers. Many labs offer custom shading for this purpose, but there will probably be a slight additional fee, much less than replacing another veneer. If you know the lab that did these veneers for you originally, they may have your records. You can also contact the dentist that did these veneers for you to get the shade information as well as the dental lab name.

Answer: You can do just one! The biggest concern would be the prognosis of the other 3. If there are concerns with the integrity of their margins or esthetics then it behooves you to do all of them at the same time. If the rest are in good shape then a single veneer can be replaced. It's often challenging to match colour exactly to the old veneers but your cosmetic dentist and a good lab can deliver something very close Good luck
