Hello and thank you for your question,Yes balloon can be removed before 6 months if you have reached your goal weight. But the most important benefit of balloon therapy is continuing the beneficial behaviors of dietary portion control and regular exercise. If you do not continue with these, then you will probably regain the weight that you worked so hard to lose. I have a patient that reached her goal weight after 4 months, I removed the balloon and the patient is still maintaining the weight. I hope this helps.Take care,
Yes, the balloon can be removed at any time before, but not beyond, six months. Most people will certainly prefer to keep it in place for the full 6 months, as this will maximize the weight loss that can be achieved. Rarely, someone will not tolerate the balloon and will need it removed early because of side effects, but this is not common. If you chose to remove the balloon early, we would still recommend continuing with the full 12 months of dietary counseling and support that is included in the program.
All the available Gastric Ballons in US are only approved for a 6 months period!Obviously they can be removed earlier if a patient requesting it, or if the side effects are unmanageable. The only problem is that removing the ballon will stop its weight-loss effect and can possibly result in some weight gain.
