I had crowns put on my incisors (8 and 9). I can feel the back of the crowns with my tongue when it hits the roof of my mouth, which is constantly. Even when I speak certain words my tongue rubs against it. My dentist shaved them down a bit when he put the crowns in, but said he did not want to shave them down anymore. He said my real incisors underneath are shaved down too much and he is fearful they crowns will come off easily. Does this sound right? Any recommendations? Thanks!

Those crowns , seem to be old, and there is receding gums, but also you will need to change those crowns ,there is no other way to correct this.when you have crowns that do not fit, the most important thing its to change them as soon as possible, because this line you see might be decay...
It should be safe, but it is always a risk. I suggest to my patients that they bite off slightly to one side on natural teeth or cut the harder fruit, such as apples, into slices before eating. Softer fruits should be fine.
